On Thursday, the youth wing of Ohaneze Ndigbo, the cutting-edge socio-cultural group Igbo, urged residents of Imo State, especially young people, to remain calm in the face of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the election of the governor in the state.
The Supreme Court, in a unanimous judgment of seven men on Tuesday, dismissed leader Emeka Ihedioha of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), governor of Imo and declared Hope Uzodinma of the Progressive Congress (APC), validly elected governor. .
Ohaneze Ndigbo’s national youth chief, Chief Arthur Obiora, made the call during an interview with journalists at Enugu on political development in Imo.
Obiora insisted that whatever happens, the interests of the Imo and the residents “must be sacrosanct” and all political gladiators of the state must pursue the interest of the people and embrace peace, reports NAN.
However, he urged anyone under the leadership of the state to live up to the expectations of the Imo people and to fulfill their electoral promises.
“Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Wing demands calm throughout Imo”.
“We may not agree with the Supreme Court judgment, but we have a duty as law-abiding and responsible citizens to accept it.
“We are asking the new government to make sure it keeps its election promises to the good people of Imo at the end of the day.
“Ohaneze believes that good governance is about bringing the dividends of democracy to the people.
“And the best of good governance is what the people of Imo who love peace now want,” he said.
