Kat Von D sells makeup brand owner and launches singing career

Cat Von D 2020 starts by stepping away from one company and at the same time announcing some exciting new ones.

On Thursday morning, the tattoo artist-entrepreneur-entrepreneur confirmed that she renounced Kat Von D Beauty to focus on other opportunities. “It has become clear to me that I cannot do everything at maximum capacity,” she shared on Instagram. “It’s hard to admit this because I’ve always said,” You can do anything and everything. “But I don’t think admitting your limits is a bad thing.”

She explained that she sold her shares of the brand to Kendo, the company with which she collaborated to create Kat Von D beauty. “This was not an easy decision, but after careful consideration, I decided that I wanted the make-up line to continue to thrive and grow, and I believe that Kendo is ready to do that,” she added.

The name of the brand will eventually be renamed KvD Vegan Beauty.

The past year was a big change for me. As many of you know, I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy, I launched my vegan shoe line and am now preparing my long-awaited album in the spring, followed by an international tour! As much as I wish I could balance all this, in addition to continuing my makeup line, it became clear to me that I just can’t do everything at maximum capacity. It’s hard to admit this because I’ve always said, “You can do anything and everything.” But I don’t think admitting your limits is a bad thing. That said, I decided to sell my brand shares and transfer the last 11 years to Kendo, my partners. This was not an easy decision, but after careful consideration, I decided that I wanted the make-up line to continue to flourish and grow, and I believe that Kendo is ready for that. The transition for you, my loyal customers, will be seamless. To prevent any confusion with such a big change, Kat Von D Beauty will take a moment to renew itself, so that you notice the change from KatVonD Beauty to KvD Vegan Beauty. I would like to thank my beloved fans + followers who supported my vision to create a brand that stood for compassion, true artistry and challenged modern beauty ideals – most I could never relate to. I was able to create a make-up line that gave outsiders like me the feeling that we have a place in this ‘beauty’ world, and gave myself and others the means to express ourselves in our own unique way whether it was embraced by the majority or not. And I just couldn’t have done this without you! Finally, thank you for understanding + respecting my choice, because it was difficult to make, but I am always proud of it and trust that the team will continue the KvD legacy! Here is much, much more KvD Vegan Beauty!

After that announcement, a press release was issued explaining how Von D is expanding her “empire” – announcing the successful launch of her shoe line, a debut album and an international tour.

The album, which she wrote with Linda Perry, will include collaborations with Dave Grohl, Ladyhawke, Peter Murphy from Bauhaus, Danny Lohner from Nine Inch Nails and a Spanish duet with the one and only Charo. It will be released later this year, with tour information shared “in the coming months.”

Von D launched its vegan shoe brand, Kat Von D Shoes, in November 2019.
