She died at the age of eight, announced her owner, Mike Bridavsky, after suffering from a "persistent and aggressive bone infection". Despite his illness, death had been a shock, said Bridavsky.

"Even knowing this, we did not expect it to go so early or so abruptly and without warning," he wrote in an ad. "I sincerely believe that she voluntarily made the decision to leave her failing body so that our family would not be forced to make that difficult decision ourselves."

Lil Bub was known for his unusual look, including the fact that his tongue hung all the time and his limbs were shorter than usual. She suffered from a number of genetic abnormalities that made it a subject of study by scientists, as well as a success on the Internet.

Bub was the tip of a wild litter found in Indiana and was struggling to be adopted. Eventually, she was taken in charge by Mr Bridavsky, who quickly shared pictures of her online because "I was very proud of her and I really thought that she would not be happy with her. she was the most incredible creature, "he said later.

She became famous after photos were shared on Tumblr and Reddit in 2011. She then accumulated numerous social media, with millions of followers on Instagram and Facebook.

Mr. Bridavsky used the cat's popularity to raise funds for animal charities.

"Bub has made a huge difference in the world of animal welfare and in the lives of millions of people around the world," he wrote in an announcement.

"She literally saved thousands of lives (pets and humans), she launched the first national fund for pets with special needs, she was the subject of groundbreaking genetic and biological research, she has helped raise more than $ 700,000 for animals in need and has spread a message of determination, positivity and perseverance to the people of the world. "

She died on December 1, eight years after her adoption by Mr. Bridavsky. "Bub was happy and full of love, lying in bed with us Saturday night, but died peacefully in his sleep," he wrote in his news.

Lil Bub is the second famous internet chat to die this year. In May, Grumpy Cat died at the age of seven.
