Chris Martin is perhaps a Grammy-winning rock star, but he is still like any other father: he embarrasses his teenage daughter.
While it appears on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Wednesday the cold play frontman shared a hilarious story about visiting his 15-year-old daughter, Apple, at work.
“My daughter works in a clothing store. This is her first job and she’s about to turn 16 and I’m so proud of her,” said Martin about Apple, which he shares with his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow. “She is, you know, finding her way in the world.”
“And I didn’t tell her, but I was going to surprise her – not to surprise, but I was just going to look,” he continued. “And I thought,” I’d better buy something. ” So I took a t-shirt off the rack and stood in line. And she was at the cash register … and she saw me. “
Martin said Apple looked at him then and said, “Daddy, go away!” which he said he felt “terrible.”
“So I went to the other line,” Martin continued. “I held my t-shirt and was really scared of my daughter. And I paid for the t-shirt and I had brought her some fudge – she loves this candy fudge. So I said to the lady:” Would you give it to my daughter? “
“And when I left, she screamed,” I love you, Dad, “he said as the audience jumped in response to him.
During the “The Ellen Show” Martin also shared another funny anecdote about a pitch he had for a sequel to “A Quiet Place”, which of course played the lead role Emily Blunt and her husband John Krasinski.
“When ‘A Quiet Place’ came out, I later had an idea for a joke. So I sent Emily Blunt and her husband [John Krasinski] this idea for the musical of” A Quiet Place, “he said, explaining that the idea was that he was playing fake on the piano and syncing lip without sound.
“And they never responded,” he added. “So every time I see that [‘A Quiet Place: Part II’] trailer, I feel sick,” Martin said laughing. “Because I thought,” Oh no. They must have thought I was taking the mickey. And it wasn’t! I loved the movie. “
Although Martin said he had never heard of the pair, Ellen assured him that he “will hear from them now.”
