OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV / AP) – A 71-year-old man was accused of going on strike and killing a 14-year-old girl when she went home from her Overland Park school last year.
Lenhir Gandhi of Lenexa was sentenced to $ 50,000 in prison for ruthless second-degree murder of Alexandra Rumple on Wednesday.
Gandhi initially told investigators that his brakes had failed in April before his car hit a sidewalk on 123rd Street and Switzer Avenue in Overland Park, Kansas, where it hit Alexandra and narrowly missed three other children. Alexandra was an eighth grader at a nearby middle school.
Police say the car hit a traffic light, knocked it off the base, hit a speed limit sign, and destroyed it about 30 meters from a wooden fence. A police report said that it showed no evidence of impairment.
The prosecutor’s office made no further statements about what happened in a press release.
